Cinema and leisure foyers face a specific contamination cocktail that is not seen elsewhere in retail: popcorn-oil overspray combined with sugary drink spillage on polished tile, with high-footfall pulses concentrated around screening times. Pendulum performance in these zones often differs substantially between the showroom-condition surface and the in-service surface.
Movie-theatre concession stands produce a fine airborne mist of popcorn oil that settles on surrounding floor surfaces over a screening day. By evening, polished entrance tile in the foyer carries a thin oil film that the pendulum reliably detects but a dry visual inspection does not. This is one of the few retail slip-risk profiles that gets worse through the day rather than being driven by external weather.
Spilled soft drinks add a second contaminant: sugar residue that initially is not slippery but becomes tacky and then dries into a film that affects PTV unpredictably. Cleaning regimes that lift the visible spillage but do not address the residue leave a slip risk that the pendulum captures.
Cinema foyers experience traffic in pulses around screening start and end times rather than steady-state flow. This affects both the contamination cycle and the foreseeability of busy periods for risk-management purposes. Periodic testing should reflect peak-condition states — ideally end-of-evening — rather than first-thing-Monday-after-deep-clean conditions.
Indoor soft-play and trampoline-park venues add a different contaminant set: socks rather than shoes (lower friction with the floor), child-aged users (lower fall consequence per event but higher event frequency), and frequent food and drink contamination. Pendulum testing with Slider 55 (sock-equivalent) supplements standard Slider 96 testing in these venues.
Bowling-centre lanes themselves are precision-engineered and not pendulum-tested in normal practice. But the foyer, bar and food-service areas adjacent to the lanes are conventional polished-tile or vinyl retail environments and follow the same testing patterns as cinemas and other leisure venues.
